Our thoughts

We’ve used the Gymboss extensively in group training environments as well as for our own training. The device is simple and effective. Getting used to setting up your intervals is a little frustration but once you get the hang of it, it’s happy days. If you like mixing up your training, this is a great way to do it. We’ve used it for circuits, Tabata interval training and much more. The audible beep is loud and the vibration is strong so it’s very hard to miss an interval (unless the batteries are getting low). The clip is a great idea allowing the timer to clip onto your clothing while you workout. You don’t even need to look at the timer if you use your ears – a great asset. The Gymboss is fairly priced and P&H is not over-charged as with some vendors. The only real competition is from some iPhone apps.

Summary

Pros:

  • extensive interval functionality
  • great warranty and guarantee
  • simple, effective way to extend your workout options

Cons:

  • set-up is not intuitive
  • can take a while to set-up the intervals you want
  • you wouldn’t want to step on it

Rating: 3.5/5

Good review. Definitely agree that the Gymboss is a little difficult to configure for some people. I switched to the WOD Timer app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Just a couple of bucks too. Has presets, music integration, audio and voice cues and some other pretty cool features. Should definitely give it a try.
    Cheers!

Thank you, Jamie. I’ll have to check out that iPhone app.
